This modern dairy is owned by the David and Charles Wiens family,who like their father have continued to adapt new innovative technologies on their farm.

The farm has expanded several times and added additional Harvestore storage to maintain feed efficiency with haylage and high moisture corn. A 120' x 28' Slurrystore is at the heart of the farms manure management sytem

 A new 240 cow freestall was built in 2007 with a 4 stall robotic milking system.Feeding,milking and barn cleaning are three areas that were automated says David.

"Just these three things save us an estimated $80,000 annually.

                                          Smart ,Push Button Feeding

 The computerized feeding "smart panel"can be set to feed precisely measured rations to however many cows desired.Feed stored in the farms's Harvestores is unloaded and conveyed to the TMR mixer from where it is elevated to conveyors over the feed alleys and dropped into the feed mangers.

Feeding 240 cows used to take two hours,but now there's no actual labour.

That two hours can now be directed to the important management of the herd.
